The first prototype looks promising: according to the Japanese manufacturer, the production costs of the afuel cellshave been shot down, so Toyota will soon be able to begin large-scale production of this car.

ThereToyota FCVit won't be the first car fuel cell(based on hydrogen fuel cells) of the market, the world of four wheels has long included the Honda Clarity FCX and the alliance between the car manufacturers Renault, Ford and Nissan promises well enough to herald the debut of a new FCEV system by 2017.


ThereToyota FCVlooks like a four-seat sedan, a four-door 487 cm long and 154 cm high. The 136 horsepower electric motor is powered by fuel cells and hydrogen is contained in two large storage tanks placed under the floor. The car should make its debut on the market with a range of at least 500 kilometers and a refueling time of no more than 3 minutes.

The bodywork sees extremely aerodynamic lines so much so that the designersToyotathey admitted they were inspired by classic catamarans. The exteriors seem dynamic and fluid, the wide opening of the front, the sharp and thin headlights and the lowered suspension give the whole car a sporty appearance. The hood is long and low, the sides are high. The arched roof descends smoothly until it merges with the tail. The serial version of theToyota FCVshould be unveiled to the public in 2015.


Why should the automotive sector go for hydrogen? If with the conventional use of fossil fuels there is an efficiency of 20-25%, thefuel cells have a yield greater than 60%. The functioning of afuel cell it is similar to that of a battery: the substantial difference lies in the regents, the fuel offuel cells it is supplied externally, ensuring continuous operation.
